Advanced Diploma Course in Bioinformatics

Madurai Kamaraj University, School of Biotechnology was the first to start the one year Advanced Diploma Course in Bioinformatics with an aim to lead to a better interaction between University research/manpower training and industrial R&D.; The Bioinformatics Centre has been conducting this Advanced Diploma Course in Bioinformatics since 1996-97. The course is for one year and cover theoretical and computational aspects of sequence analysis, structural analysis, molecular interactions, programming (C, Perl, Python), web programming (XML, Java) and database development (SQL). The students also undertake a project work in the above areas guided by faculty.

A maximum of 8 non-sponsored and 2 sponsored candidates are selected per year and they are paid a fellowship of Rs. 5000/= per month. All candidates have so far completed the course successfully and nearly all of them are placed in various Govt./Industries in the area of Bioinformatics. So far 67 students have completed the course and been placed

  • The classes for Advanced Diploma Course for year 2006-2007 will begin in the first week of August.
  • The advertisement will be published in any one of the leading dailies in the southern region and will also be updated in this web site (in April end or May first week).
  • The entrance examination will be in June and the interview will be held only at madurai in July. Old model questions are not available.
  • The application cum prospectus can be downloadable from this site in the near future.
